OXFORD United will not pursue police action over an alleged headbutt on Jack Stevens at half-time of Friday's defeat to Sunderland.

Karl Robinson suggested officers had been called to the Stadium of Light following the U's 3-1 loss, which was marred by flare-ups in the tunnel at the break and after the final whistle.

Northumbria Police did not respond to a request for comment from this newspaper, but United have confirmed they will not take the matter further.

As of yesterday, the FA was waiting for Trevor Kettle's report before deciding whether to launch an investigation into any of the incidents on Good Friday.

United head coach Robinson suggested the referee did not witness the half-time clashes, with the official and his assistants seen waiting outside the tunnel.

The U's boss was sent off after Sunderland's second goal nine minutes from time, when the hosts took a quick free-kick with Cameron Brannagan down on the ground.

Robinson said at the time: "I got sent off for saying (to Kettle) 'that was a bleeping disgrace and you need to do your bleeping job'."

Mark Sykes had already been dismissed for a second booking, while there was further controversy when Max Power scored Sunderland's third in stoppage-time and celebrated in front of the U's dugout.

Tempers boiled over again after the final whistle, with Black Cats manager Lee Johnson claiming both sides were at fault.

Robinson will be able to watch tomorrow's home game against Accrington Stanley from the touchline as he waits to see if there are any repurcussions for his dismissal.
