OXFORD United must look within themselves to rediscover their scoring touch, says Cameron Brannagan.

The U’s failed to find the net for the sixth time in eight games as they lost 2-0 at Sky Bet League One leaders Hull City.

United had nine shots to their opponents’ eight and 64 per cent of possession, but Keane Lewis-Potter showed a ruthlessness the visitors lacked with a goal in each half.

Brannagan knows the U’s are missing that clinical edge and admitted it is a problem only they can address.

“We need to be ruthless when we get in those areas,” the midfielder said.

“We just need a few more to go in and people to get a bit more confident and play with more freedom.

“That’s got to come from us players.”

The lively Dan Agyei forced Hull goalkeeper Matt Ingram into a save within 30 seconds of kick-off, while Josh Ruffels and Brannagan also went close.

The 24-year-old blazed over moments after Lewis-Potter gave the hosts the lead 22 minutes in and has now gone 24 games without a goal.

He said: “I’m just missing that final edge and it’s frustrating, because I want to be scoring goals.

“Everyone goes through tough periods and hopefully one will go in.

“I need to get into the positions before I can get the shots off.

“Sometimes I need to be a little higher than I am, sometimes I drop a bit too deep.

“I need to get the ball in the right areas and I need to start hitting the target more.”

The opening goal allowed Hull to play on the break and Lewis-Potter made the points safe 19 minutes from time.

Brannagan said: “They set up a good game-plan of counter-attacking us and they played that well.

“It was a good performance, but we didn’t win the game and it’s a results business.

“I’d rather us play terribly and win, if I’m honest.”
