ANTHONY Forde rued his misfortune for a second week running as he came inches away from a much-needed Oxford United goal.
The midfielder beat Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Ben Amos in the 62nd minute of the Sky Bet League One stalemate, only to see the ball crash off the inside of the post and away to safety.
Forde also struck the woodwork in the previous Saturday’s 1-1 draw at MK Dons, but United needed last-ditch moments of quality to rescue a point in both games.
Whereas Elliot Lee headed a 97th-minute equaliser the week before, there were heroics at the other end against Charlton as Jack Stevens brilliantly saved Ronnie Schwartz’s stoppage-time penalty.
Forde felt a defeat would have been harsh on the U’s, though, and believes they deserved a break.
“I thought it was in,” the 27-year-old said.
“We were a bit unlucky, I feel like we should have nicked it.
Karl Robinson: Penalty save masked quality of Oxford United's display
“I can’t get that luck, I hit the post last week as well.
“I’ve just got to keep going and hopefully it’ll come.”
The Irishman has scored just twice in 60 U’s appearances, with the most recent coming at Crawley Town in November 2019.
United have got troubles across the board in attack, having found the net just once in their last six matches.
Clean sheets against Ipswich Town, Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic mean the U’s have picked up three points in that period and Karl Robinson insists it is only a matter of time before the goals return.
“We’re having that moment in front of goal where things don’t go our way,” the U’s head coach said.
“When Matty (Taylor) came on he looked sharp.
“It’s not a case of not working hard, it’s close.
“It’ll turn and I’ve got belief in my team.”
