OXFORD United’s successful transfer deadline day has been capped by the signing of top target Brandon Barker.
The highly-rated winger joins on loan from Scottish giants Rangers until the end of the season, in a similar deal to fellow deadline-day recruits Elliot Lee and Joe Grayson.
The 24-year-old, who can play on either flank, has fallen out of favour at the runaway SPFL leaders, but came through the ranks at Manchester City so has plenty of pedigree.

Plenty of clubs showed interest when he was made available for loan, but Barker felt Oxford showed more desire than the rest.
“It’s been a bit whirlwind,” he said.
“I spoke to quite a few clubs and Oxford were the team that I thought really wanted me and really wanted to get it done.
“I got a really good vibe and can’t wait to get down there and start playing.”
He added: “Karl (Robinson) has really given me confidence from the phone calls that we’ve had.
“He’s really made me feel special.
“I just can’t wait to get down there and repay him and get back to playing my best football.”
Barker made one appearance for City – a 5-1 Emirates FA Cup defeat at Chelsea in February 2016 – and has represented England Under 18s, 19s and 20s.
The Premier League club loaned him out to Rotherham United, Hibernian, Preston North End and NAC Breda in the Netherlands, before his move to Rangers in August 2019.
Barker’s first season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic, but he has still played in three Old Firm games and several Europa League ties.
U’s head coach Robinson feels his latest recruit’s ability lives up to his impressive CV and admitted being surprised at getting the deal over the line.
He said: “He’s an incredible talent – I’m really shocked we got this one done.
“I didn’t think he was ever within our reach.
“Brandon was No 1 on our list, but the one we thought we weren’t going to get.
“In the last three or four days it escalated into a possibility.
