Former Radley athlete Hatti Dean was disappointed to finish only 26th at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Toro, Spain, on Sunday.
Dean, who now competes for Hallamshire Harriers, clocked 28mins 19secs over the 8.2km course, and did not feature as part of the Great Britain team that landed the silver medal.
The points-scoring quartet of Kate Reed, Hayley Yelling, Lizzie Yelling and Helen Clitheroe kept Britain's superb record at this event intact as the secured a podium finish for the eighth year in a row.
But Dean felt she had put in an under-par performance, and was disappointed not to feature in the medals.
She said: "I didn't feel great to be honest, and never really got going.
"I started OK, but felt very tired at the 2km mark.
"Despite good results on the track, I still feel like a cross country runner, and it's a really important part of my training.
"The course should have been perfect for me to go a bit better, but it didn't happen.
"I will now go away and sort myself out and prepare for the worlds in Edinburgh."
