New Club came back from the dead in their first-round Stephen Reiss Cup match against HCC A.
Two of the three matches were won comfortably with Oracle beating Ashton 5-0 and Thame beating Morris Motors 4-1.
But the third was a nailbiter with New Club fighting back from 2-0 down. They were rescued by Justin Shepherd, who took them through 3-2.
Shepherd rattled in breaks of 17, 21 and 23 to beat Paul Caria (+100) 200-147.
Thame played Morris Motors at home. Peter Hawkes (+125) won his third game for Thame when he surprised Doug Baker (+70), beating him 150-139.
Roger Tomlin (+50) levelled the match, beating Tom Fletcher (+70) in a thriller 150-147.
Nigel Bossom (+30) won the match for Thame when he ran away from Bob Hayward (+70) 200-160, for an aggregate win of 497-449.
On Wednesday, action switches to the first round of the Atox Cup.
Draw: CCC B v Fieldside, CCC A v HCC A, Ashton v New Club.
