Oxford coach Darryl Morvan said it had been a gruelling two days and praised the team for keeping their discipline.
"On Saturday, the team did remarkably well to maintain their focus and composure," he added.
"Particularly, when faced with opponents whose main objective seemed to be to try and goad Oxford players into fights, or to cheap-shot and deliberately attempt to injure," said Morvan.
"Fortunately we had a strong referee who realised his priorities were to protect the players, and took strong action against Telford.
"Kevin McGurk had a great game throughout, bearing in mind he went for long periods with nothing to do, and it was a shame he wasn't able to get his shut-out."
Morvan was less then happy with the officiating at the Milton Keynes game.
He said: "We had a referee who seemed more interested in making sure player's chinstraps weren't too loose and they weren't wearing jewellery, than doing his job and ensuring fair play.
"Again the team showed tremendous restraint and composure in the face of extreme provocation. They applied themselves well.
"Sam Broughton had an outstanding game, James Skaife (pictured) had a well deserved shut-out and it must be said that the defence were excellent all weekend."
