Grove ended their four-game losing streak with a 23-5 home victory over Slough in Southern Counties North.

Dreadful weather conditions led to many errors and stopped Slough slotting three very kickable penalties.

Grove got the breakthrough when flanker Carl Alder darted over following a lineout and centre Simon Peel came close to a second before the break.

Slough's kicker was nailed on his line by Grove fly half Roger Sevier and No 8 John Smart drove over from the resulting scrum.

Replacement hooker Jimmy Wallbridge stayed out with the backs to dive over for his second try in two weeks.

Grove's fourth try came from skipper Dave Johnson who went straight through a gap, while Sevier's penalty made it 23-0.

Slough's forwards drove over for a late consolation.

Witney's woes continued with a 6-5 home defeat to Beaconsfield.

The Hailey Road side have now lost five times in the league, all but ending their promotion hopes.

With full back Phil Gouldie and prop Rikki Dore on song, Witney played better than they had done in the previous week's defeat at Amersham & Chiltern.

They needed to make the most of the wind and did so with a try on 15 minutes.

Wing Ben Rollinson was released in some space and showed great power and pace to charge over.

Rollinson went close again soon afterwards, following Owen Fowler's grubber kick, while Henry Lamb missed a penalty.

Witney came out fired up after the break, but two Beaconsfield penalties in five minutes sealed their fate.
