ACCRINGTON Stanley’s opening-day performance should serve as a cautionary tale to Oxford United tomorrow, says Simon Eastwood.

The Lancashire side are now into their third season in Sky Bet League One and have been impressive at home so far this term.

After smashing Leeds United’s youngsters 7-0 in the EFL Trophy, John Coleman (pictured) steered Stanley to a 2-0 victory against highly-fancied Peterborough United a fortnight ago.

Eastwood said: “It doesn’t get any easier, we’re not playing the biggest team in the world at Accrington, but when they beat Peterborough in the first game you know it’s going to be a really tough game to get something.”

U’s boss knows fellow Liverpudlian Coleman well and is full of respect for the job one of the EFL’s longest-serving managers continues to do.

He said: “They overachieve year-in, year-out. But people also forget over the last two or three years they’ve certainly improved on what they do on the ball.

“They are a threat in and out of possession now. We have to make sure we’re fully aware of what we’re going to come up against.

“They do an unbelievable job and that’s testament to him and his staff.”
