Matt Green hopes his second FA Cup experience on Saturday will be better than his first.

The 20-year-old on-loan Cardiff striker, who scored on his debut for the U's last weekend, was at Newport County when they lost 3-1 at home to Welsh rivals Swansea City in the first round last season.

The match was overshadowed by an ugly incident which saw fourth official Alan Sheffield being taken to hospital after being struck by a coin thrown from a fan. The match was held up for eight minutes and descended into chaos.

Green said: "The official was hit by a penny, or a pound coin and it ended up being disastrous. We were knocked out.

"I admire the fans who got behind us, but you can't do things like that.

"I came on in the second half and had a good chance, but it was unlucky really because they had scored a few early goals, and one was offside - there was a lot of controversy about it all.

"But at the end of the day it was all good experience for me. I just hope my next FA Cup tie ends happier!

"It's going to be a great game against Southend.

"I'm confident. If we get at them and don't give them any time on the ball I feel we can get a result.

"We're not over-confident, but the players have the belief that we will do well.

"Having played at Newport, I'm used to the physical side of it, which you need in the Conference.

"If we don't give Southend's players any time on the ball and get in their faces a bit, I think we could win it.

"And seeing the defence at Kidderminster, we're pretty solid and we've got some good attacking options up front.

"If we could get an early goal, then who knows?"

Green says his own game has inevitabvly improved from training at Cardiff with the likes of Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler, and his confidence has been given a boost by United boss Darren Patterson.

"I've learned so much from Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler just in training," he said.

"It's just great to have them around. In training you think 'God, that's Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink!' and you learn a lot from them.

"Technically, they were the best goalscorers in the Premiership, so I try to learn as much off them as I can, but obviously they're going to be in front of me - they're great players."
