OXFORD United are rated as fifth favourites with the bookies to win promotion from Sky Bet League One next season.

The U’s surprised many by reaching the play-off final last month, which has raised expectations externally.

The league’s sponsors rate them as 10-3 shots to go one better next season, which starts on September 12.

Sunderland are, as usual, favourites to win promotion, this time at the third attempt.

Peterborough United, another side to just miss out on the play-offs when the final positions were decided on points per game, are the next shortest price.

Charlton Athletic are seen as the most likely of the three sides relegated from the Championship to bounce straight back and are ranked alongside United’s play-off semi-final opponents Portsmouth.

Of the sides to come up from League Two, Swindon Town are viewed as having the strongest case for getting in the promotion mix.
