Witney Roadrunner Philip Hails landed the senior men's Oxfordshire 10km title after finishing sixth overall at the 20th Maylarch Eynsham 10K.

Hails clocked 33mins 43secs - a performance which landed him third place in the senior men's open race and first in the county championships.

He also took home the prize for the fastest Eynsham resident in a race which was dominated by quick times in near-perfect conditions.

The main event was won by Cheltenham's Andrew Prophett, who clocked an impressive 32.46 to see off Oxford City veteran Steve Overton for the open title.

Overton's consolation was first prize in the vet 40 category, while he also held off young Cirencester prospect Chris Illman in a tight finish to cross the line second overall.

Added to his silver in the open race, Overton also secured the county title for vet 40s, holding off the challenge of Witney pair Tony Lock and John Atyeo.

At the half-way stage, Prophett and Illman were jostling for the lead, with Overton some 20 seconds adrift in third.

However, on the second lap, Prophett pulled away, while Overton overhauled Illman to take second place.

Brian Green (Oxford City) took first prize in the vet 50 open race and was crowned Oxfordshire champion, while clubmate Richard Treadwell also took a double in the vet 60 category, seeing off Woodstock Harriers' Mike Shipway for county honours.

In the ladies' event, the open race was again won by Bedford & County's Phillippa Prescott as she claimed victory for the second successive year, clocking 36.38.

Prescott, whose second- claim club is Headington Roadrunners, held off a strong challenge from Witney's Nikki Slater, who finished ten seconds behind, with Reading's Liz Hartney third.

Sophie Dawson-Kohary was crowned senior ladies' county champion, despite finishing behind Slater in the open race.

Her time of 38.54 for 57th place secured the title, as Slater was not registered to run for the county title.

Other county titles went to Belinda Tull (Reading RR), who clocked 39.33 to win the vet 35 category, while Angela Banks (Alchester) was crowned vet 45 champion, as she clocked 42.31.

In the vet 55 section, the home club's Kate Williamson won the county championship, clocking 46.08.
