PACEMAN Angus Livingstone took three wickets in a dramatic final over as Horspath pulled off an incredible two-run win on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at home to Chesham.

Chasing a revised target of 234 from 39 overs, the visitors looked on course for victory.

They needed five to win off the last over after some explosive hitting by opener Alex Morgan and tailender James Anderson had hauled them up from 132-7.

But Livingstone had other ideas.

Bowling fast and straight, he flattened Anderson’s middle stump with his first delivery to end the Chesham batsman’s swashbuckling innings of 51 from 32 balls.

Yousef Majid then took a single to third man, before Morgan, who made 91 from 99 deliveries with five fours and three sixes, skied the next ball to cover, where Horspath captain Lloyd Belcher gratefully accepted the catch.

Chesham picked up a leg bye from the fourth delivery only for Oliver Anderson to edge Livingstone’s next ball to wicket-keeper Rob Wight as Horspath bowled out the visitors for 231 to complete an amazing victory.

It was a remarkable finish to a thrilling game, which had earlier seen Harrison Ward hit a brilliant maiden Home Counties century after the hosts had been put in to bat under gloomy grey skies.

The Oxfordshire left-hander hammered 121 from 103 balls with nine fours and nine sixes, sharing an

88-run third-wicket stand with opener Tom Coleman (40).

He then put on 132 for the fourth wicket with Darryl Brown, who made a run-a-ball 59, which included four boundaries and four sixes.

A rain break before Horspath’s final over – in which Majid took three wickets to finish with 4-39 – led to the DLS adjustment after the home side posted 235-6.

When Chesham slumped to 21-3 there was no indication of the drama to follow – encapsulated by a stunning piece of fielding by Belcher in the penultimate over, when he leapt high on the boundary to palm the ball back infield and prevent a six – before Livingstone (3-29) emerged as the hero.

George Tait shone with bat and ball as Oxford claimed their first win of the season, by 14 runs at home to Wargrave.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Oxford lost both their openers cheaply.

But Tait led the counter-attack, hitting 57 from 82 balls, supported by skipper Jamie Perkin and Dylan Swanepoel.

With Barney Carey adding some useful late runs, it got the home side up to 170-8 from their 40 overs.

In reply, five of Wargrave’s top six reached double figures, but none passed 25.

Richard Musk (3-31) did much of the damage, while the miserly Tait took 2-11 from eight overs to put the brakes on the run chase.

It saw the visitors run out of time, finishing on 156-8 as Oxford put some more daylight between themselves and the bottom two.

Thame Town were 93-2 at Oxford Downs when rain stopped play after 18 overs, while just 28 balls were possible in Banbury’s match at High Wycombe.

The visitors were 23-0 before the clash was abandoned, which saw Lloyd Sabin’s men knocked off top spot as Henley won heavily at Wokingham.

Aston Rowant’s trip to Harefield was one of three matches in the league cancelled without a ball bowled.
