OXFORD United have cancelled their plans to hold a training camp in Spain next month.

The squad had been booked into a high-quality facility near Marbella which has been used by the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid.

It was originally scheduled for the start of this month, but the delay to the season caused by the coronavirus pandemic saw them postpone it until the middle of next month.

However, a spike in cases saw the UK government issue new travel advice over the weekend.

Now anyone returning from Spain has to spend 14 days in quarantine - which would clearly heavily disrupt United's preparations for the new season.

They are now looking at alternative options, both in the UK and elsewhere on the continent.

One complication is with midfielder Alex Gorrin, who flew home to his family in Tenerife after the Sky Bet League One play-off final.

Although the Canary Islands are exempt from Foreign Office advice against all non-essential international travel, the self-isolation rules still apply to those returning to the UK.

It is likely to mean he will need to cut short his break in order to be available for the start of pre-season training.
