Rover Oxford put on a good showing but slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Liverpool Sefton in National North Division.
Lyn Cockshott was unlucky not to score before Leanne Grimsley pounced on a poorly cleared ball by the Liverpool keeper to put Rover deservedly ahead.
The visitors were unfortunate not to score more goals but it was Liverpool who put the next goal away following a high ball out of defence.
Liverpool must have been inspired by their half-time team talk. By the 51st minute they were 4-1 ahead.
Cockshott was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist after being sent flying by the goalkeeper. A stroke was awarded which Laura Smyth converted.
City of Oxford's Anna Nicholson scored a hat-trick on Saturday and Sunday!
Her first treble came in table-topping City's 7-4 win over Marlow in Premier 1 of the Trysports 3 Counties League. Rachel Lammey, Mel Baker, Tam Curnow and Vicki Quantrell also scored.
And the following day, Nicholson bagged three goals again as City won 7-0 at Christ Church, from Ipswich, in the second round of the Women's Vase. Baker, Quantrell and Becky Woodard got the other goals.
Oxford Hawks were beaten 5-3 at Southampton in their last South League Division 1 fixture before the winter shutdown.
Hawks failed to take early chances, and paid the price as Southampton scored three goals in quick succession.
Hawks were given no time on the ball and gave away possession too cheaply, and Southampton scored again at a penalty corner.
In the second half, Hawks scored through Fi Walton, a Sarah Brimyard penalty stroke, after Tori Clark was fouled, and Zoe Salter but by then it was too little, too late as Southampton had already netted from a stroke.
West Witney crashed 5-1 at Bracknell in Division 3A, but Banbury won 4-3 at Wycombe Rye with goals from Ann Glover, Natasha Nunneley, Krissy Flynn and Nicola Park.
