Oxford Hawks maintained their recent improved form with a solid 3-1 win at home to Staines in Premier Division 1.

Hawks started explosively by winning a penalty stroke in the second minute which Andy Brown converted.

After ten minutes Hawks were two up when a sweeping four-man move set up Sebastian Van Den Berg at the top of the circle and he beat the keeper decisively.

Staines scored two minutes into the second half after profiting from some sloppy defending.

Van Den Berg, however, then scored his second of the game, and although the visitors staged a late rally, they couldn't breach Hawks' defence.

In the same division, Oxford University were beaten 4-3 at Spencer (Wandsworth).

Rover Oxford won their second successive Premier Division 2 game with a hard fought 3-2 win against BBHC.

The game started poorly for Rover who seemed to invite pressure from the visiting team and went behind.

This pattern continued for much of the first half with Rover creating few chances.

They conceded a soft second goal but then began to dominate possession and were soon back in it with a goal from in-form Dan Smyth.

Rover equalised when Mark Carpenter's shot was deflected in and the comeback was completed as Smyth scored the winner with five minutes remaining. The result takes Rover away from the relegation zone.

Banbury have gone three points clear at the top after beating Winchester 3-1.

Winchester had the early chances and twice Ben Hibbered missed the target when it looked easier to score.

Banbury capitalised, with Simon Boardman on hand to deflect home, off both posts, Dave Clark's pass.

Richard Foreman then got a touch on James Clement's free hit to give Banbury a two-goal cushion.

Winchester got back into the game when a weak drag flick somehow deflected off Phil Smith in the Banbury goal.

Banbury regained control with a wonder goal from Tim Craven after he had been set free by Adrian Simons.

Two goals from open play by coach Alex Pizz helped City of Oxford on their way to a stunning 7-0 Division 1 win at Marlow.

It was an even first half, but Pizz made all the difference, and then City ran away with it in the last 15 minutes, with 17-year-old Chris Brougham netting a hat-trick and other goals coming from Richard Hill and Andy McNamee.

A third hat-trick of the season from Josh Tomlinson was only enough to help Abingdon scrape a 3-3 draw against struggling Phoenix & Ranelagh.

Abingdon took the lead from the penalty spot, but five minutes of sloppy defending saw Phoenix go ahead courtesy of two goals from Richard Harlen.

Abingdon drew level, again from the penalty spot, after the Phoenix keeper upended Tomlinson.

Tomlinson scored his third with a powerful penalty corner drag flick. But Phoenix were not beaten yet, and equalised when Steve Eastman forced the ball home.

Witney went down 4-3 at Bracknell, but Wallingford secured a useful 3-2 victory at Leighton Buzzard.
