Oxford promoter Allen Trump is the new boss at Elite League Coventry.
Trump has leased the speedway rights from Avtar Sandhu, with an option to buy the team at the end of the 2008 season. Sandhu will remain as Coventry stadium owner.
There was already a link in place between the two clubs, with Peter Oakes team manager at both Oxford and Coventry.
Trump said: "I would like to reassure the Cheetahs fans that my involvement at Coventry will not affect Oxford Speedway in any way.
"Provided that I can come to an agreement with the GRA, I still plan to run both Premier League and Conference League speedway at Oxford in 2008.
"My involvement with Coventry should prove to be hugely beneficial to Oxford."
Coventry have an excellent asset base, including up-and-coming British stars Josh Auty and Adam Roynon. Both could well feature in any prospective Oxford Premier League side.
