Sixteen-year-old Declan Benjamin (pictured) has spoken of his delight at being the second youngest first-team player in Oxford United's history.
Benjamin became the youngest since Jason Seacole 30 years ago to make his U's bow when the young midfielder came on in the 89th minute for Yemi Odubade against Ebbsfleet on Saturday.
A first-year professional and a product of United's youth development scheme, Benjamin was 16 years and 286 days old, meaning that only Seacole at 16 years and 149 days has appeared at a younger age for the U's since they joined the Football League in 1962.
"It was great to get on," said Declan. "I knew I was in the squad the day before after training, which was fantastic, and to actually get on was unbelievable.
"It was only a short time on the pitch, but a great experience. Now I have to try and push on in training and get more chances."
Benjamin, who is set to feature for United's youth team in tonight's FA Youth Cup second-round trip to Stevenage, added: "Now my target is to get on and actually touch the ball!"
