Banbury Utd 2 (Gooderick 2, Murphy 56 pen)

Corby Tn 1 (Diggins 73 pen)

At last! Banbury recorded their first British Gas Southern League Premier Division home win of the season at Spencer Stadium on Saturday, to increase their unbeaten run to six games.

With Ben Milner unavailable through personal reasons, and his replacement at centre-half Wayne Blossom suspended, Andy Baird donned the No 5 shirt, and produced a man-of-the-match performance.

Banbury had a dream start when after just 80 seconds they took the lead.

From a corner on the left, Sammy Ibrahim's well-flighted flag-kick was met by Matt Murphy, whose goalbound header was finished off by Matty Gooderick to register his first goal of the campaign.

From another Ibrahim corner, Baird was unlucky when his back-header was cleared off the line by Corby defender Liam Nicell.

Then, the Steelmen's keeper Steve Ryan did well to keep out an Ibrahim effort.

Corby went close in an entertaining first-half when home keeper Andy Wheeler twice did well to push over Darren Lynch headers.

Banbury increased their lead when Lewis Travers powered into the penalty area, but with only Ryan to beat, he was pulled back by Wayne Diuk.

Murphy placed the spot-kick into the left-hand corner of the net.

Corby pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute when Mike Feely pulled a player's shirt, and Steve Diggins netted his penalty.

Troy Bryan came off the bench after missing four games through injury, and saw his shot well saved.

Banbury Utd: Wheeler, Travers, Kinch, Essex, Baird, Fuller, Stanbridge, Feeley, Murphy, Gooderick (Bryan 74), Ibrahim (Bridges 63). Subs not used: Nicholls, Sambrook, Milner.
