Having lost twice by 10-5, Oxfordshire's pumped-up first team travelled to Horsham to play Sussex in Division 1C of the Inter-County Championships and returned 9-6 winners.

Oxon opened with three of four singles wins. Ryan Manuel, Jon Campbell and Amanda King put the visitors 3-1 up.

With the eight men's and ladies' doubles shared, Oxon needed one mixed for a win, two for a bonus point and three for a further bonus point.

They nearly made it. Dave Soanes and King won, as did Campbell and Alison Ross. Top pair Dave Buckingham and Sarah Torgersen held match point at 20-19 in the third end before losing.

Oxon 2nd travelled to Shrewsbury to face Shropshire first in Division 3B and narrowly lost 9-6.

Witney's Nicola Patrick was unbeaten with two doubles wins with Becky Foster and a mixed with Paul Casey.

In fact, Oxon's slow singles start meant they never quite recovered from being 4-0 down.

  • Park B, based at Wheatley, were involved in two odd rubbers in nine matches in Mixed Division 3 of the Oxford and District League.

Park fell 5-4 to Gosford Hill B when Ian Whitehead and Charlotte Foreman proved too hot to handle.

But Park won 5-4 against Leys B thanks to an unbeaten display from Michael Cheung and Judith Ponsford.

John Leachey and Anthony McFarlane helped Headington C edge Bicester 5-4 in Men's Division 4.

  • James Barclay from Wantage continued his sensational start to the season with a third unbeaten outing in as many weeks.

This time the opponents were Park in Division 2 of the Wallingford Three Disciplines League. Wantage won 254-224.
