THE EFL have called an emergency meeting to decide whether to suspend the league season.

Last night they released a statement saying all games would continue as normal amid the coronavirus outbreak, but the picture is changing rapidly.

And this morning an EFL spokesman said: “The EFL Board will meet this morning to make a decision on this weekend’s fixtures and beyond.”

Oxford United were due to play Milton Keynes Dons at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow.

Yesterday, U's boss Karl Robinson said he felt disruption was inevitable as a result of the outbreak, which has seen action taken across European football.

One option is to play behind closed doors - but it is something the players do not want.

United's finance director Tim Davies has also said such a measure would cost the club around £100,000 per game.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have tested positive for coronavirus.

The Gunners played Portsmouth in the Emirates FA Cup last week and the Sky Bet League One side have said they are in discussions with medical experts and Accrington Stanley, who they were due to face tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has revealed one of the club's players has been tested for the virus and is self-isolating.

"My manager and I agree (we do not) want to travel to Bolton tomorrow," he tweeted.

"One of our players is now in self-isolation awaiting results.

"We just played Pompey who just played Arsenal. Will be reaching out to EFL today re this and if they are going to make us play tomorrow."
