LIAM Gilbert has praised Oxford United’s players ahead of the second part of their home double-header in FA Women’s National League Southern Premier.
The U’s entertain Portsmouth tomorrow (2pm), fresh from Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Milton Keynes Dons at Court Place Farm.
It marks a dramatic change of pace for United, who had played just twice in 2020 prior to the midweek triumph.
Gilbert’s side are only four points off second place and the U’s manager was encouraged by what he saw against the Dons.
He said: “We had a tough, physically demanding game on Tuesday night, but to grind out the result like we did was pleasing to see.
“There were some really good moments, and there were some moments that we need to work on, but overall it was a good result to clinch the three points.”
United have won four of their last five games, but Gilbert is expecting a stern test tomorrow.
He said: “Pompey have a number of good central midfielders.
“When you look at their recent additions that we will need to be prepared for, we will have a game plan on how to deal with that.”
Youngsters can now sign up for the new Oxfordshire Futsal League.
Players can take part in discounted pilot tournaments at Didcot Girls School every Friday evening, complete with qualified FA futsal referees.
Boys, girls and mixed teams are encouraged to get involved, with the league’s first season launching in September.
