JOE Godwood capped an excellent day for Witney Road Runners by finishing as the fastest Oxfordshire athlete at the Bourton 10k.

Many of the county’s clubs were represented in Gloucestershire, as the howling wind and steady rain made life challenging for competitors.

Godwood’s time of 34mins 27secs was enough for 12th place, crowning a host of impressive performances from his clubmates.

Christopher Mulcahy was 41st and the fourth V45 with a personal best of 37.59, while Lisa Kay was the fourth LV35, finishing 144th in 43.10.

Graham Le Good crossed the line in 46.44 to triumph in the V65 category, while wife Judith was the second female V65, clocking 53.55.

Alchester’s Christopher Lumley also produced an impressive display, his time of 35.41 enough to finish as the fourth V40 in 20th.

Donna Allen was the fastest Oxfordshire woman, the Hook Norton Harrier stopping the clock at 42.30 in 129th.

Elsewhere, Jean Ashton bagged a trio of gold medals at the Southern Counties Veterans Athletics Championships in London.

The Abingdon AC member clocked 14.1secs to win the 60m hurdles, before winning the LV60 high jump with 1.15metres.

Her distance of 3.05m was enough for LV60 long jump gold, while she was second in the 200m in 36.70.

Clubmate Neil Blatchford won the V70 3,000m indoor walk in 19.35.60.

Meanwhile, Will Downey finished second at the Draycote Water February 10k, clocking 39.23 as the first man across the line.

Elsewhere, Downey’s teammates overcame difficult conditions to win the ladies’ team prize at the gruelling Pewsey Terminator.

Lisa Butler was the second LV35 as she finished 84th, stopping the clock at 1.53.03.

She was ably assisted by Rachel Stanley-Evans, whose time of 1.56.01 saw her cross the line as the third LV35 in 95th, and 2nd SL Jade Hewlett, who was 137th in 2.03.21.

The Wokingham Half Marathon was a happy hunting ground for Bicester Triathlon Club as four athletes secured personal bests.

George Jackson led the Oxfordshire team home in 84th, finishing in 1.18.39, with Elliot Newman 227th in 1.23.55.

Laurence Blair’s time of 1.28.20 was enough for 336th overall, while Lucy Davidson completed the quartet as she stopped the clock at 1.54.14 to finish 1,463rd.
