King Harald, who gave Letcombe Bassett trainer Mark Bradstock his first Cheltenham Festival triumph, posted his first win since that memorable day with a game success at Kelso on Saturday.
The nine-year-old gelding landed the Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase at the 2005 Festival.
But he then sustained a stress fracture of his off fore, which required four screws being put into his leg.
It was thought he may never race again, but after three screws were taken out, he returned to action last season, although without recapturing his previous form.
However, he was back in the winner's enclosure at the Scottish track, making most of the running under Mattie Batchelor in a handicap chase over an extended two miles and six furlongs before bravely holding off Hold The Bid by two and a half lengths.
