A LAST-GASP strike denied Oxford Hawks only a second league victory of the season.

Resuming after the winter break, a win over Southgate would have lifted them out of the bottom two in the EHL Men’s Division One South.

But the visitors scored with seconds remaining to secure a 3-3 draw.

The home side started brightly and got their reward when Ed Tristem opened the scoring with a fierce reverse-stick shot.

Southgate levelled through John Sterlini and would have led at half-time without an outstanding save by Chris Price.

The visitors’ second goal did arrive on 51 minutes, via Giulio Ferrini.

Hawks were fortunate not to fall further behind as they were dominated in the third quarter.

But the final break allowed the home side to regroup and from their only penalty corner of the game Jack Biggs made it 2-2.

Within two minutes Tom Miotto led a break which was finished off by Andy Watts.

Southgate pushed hard in response, but Hawks held firm until they lost the ball cheaply in the final minute and Matt Allister equalised.

Matt McKeown and Zum Akhter scored doubles as Oxford OBU kept the pressure on in Premier Division 2 West of the South League.

Jack Hobbs also scored in a 5-2 win over Richmond 2nd which kept them a point behind leaders Surbiton 2nd.

Witney’s winning streak in MBBO Regional 1 was extended to three matches with a 2-1 victory at lowly Eastcote.

They had to do it the hard way, as the home side scored with an early flick.

Witney were frustrated with the decision, but shrugged it off and Jacob Deacon got them back on level terms before half-time.

In a windy second half, Ollie Hartley’s 50th league goal proved the difference as Witney closed in on the top six.

Amelia Baron bagged a

hat-trick to help Oxford Ladies extend their lead in South League Division 2 to eight points.

While nearest rivals Eastbourne were drawing, Oxford thumped Trojans 6-1.

Kim Warman and Amy Litchfield got the visitors off to an excellent start.

Baron’s double made it 4-0 by the break and her third followed a goal from Clemmie Boyd.

Trojans hit a consolation late on.
