Oxfordshire lost 10-5 to Hertfordshire 3rd when they opened their campaign in Division 1C of the Inter-County Championship at Hatfield.

The visitors made a promising start, halving the singles through county champion Ryan Manvel and Amanda King.

A great effort saw Oxon win three of the four men's doubles.

Dave Buckingham and Dave Soanes won twice, and Manvel and Chris Raw once.

But that was the end of Oxon success.

Gosford Hill A were far too strong for Evenlode A as Dave Andrew and Heather Booth led them to a 7-2 home win in Mixed Division 1 of the Oxford and District League.

Second and third pairs - Deen Quwalid & Barbara Bryant and Graham Ashdown with wife Vicky - won twice each to give Headington B the edge over Gosford Hill B in Division 3.

Pete Browning and Lee Gerard were unstoppable at second pair as Oxford took a tight 5-4 result from North Abingdon A in Men's Division 1.
