DAN Agyei’s performance off the bench could see Oxford United reconsider their plans for loaning out the striker.

Boss Karl Robinson is looking for more firepower in the January transfer window, even though he hopes Matty Taylor will have recovered from a knee injury within a fortnight.

Agyei, who has started just four games this season, had been earmarked for a loan move later this month.

But the 22-year-old was a handful as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Gillingham and with Robinson admitting there were not a great deal of attractive options on the market, it may change his mind.

The U’s boss said: “He’s one for the future and there’s a reason he’s an Oxford United player, but equally there’s a reason why he has to go out and play.

“But if he keeps doing that he’s going to be knocking on my door and asking to start very soon.”

Taylor picked up a medial ligament injury late in Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Ipswich Town.

After saying the worst case scenario would be the Bristol City loanee missing three weeks, it is hoped he will be available for the next league game, against Blackpool on February 1.

Robinson even thought Taylor was “touch and go” for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie at Newcastle United, but felt it was unlikely he would take the risk.
