Oxfordshire proved a class above Wiltshire as they strengthened their position at the top of the Premier Group 4 table.

They romped to a 32-4 victory in Melksham, losing just two rubbers all afternoon and are now 22 points clear with just two matches to go.

The match started well with Geoff Cross recapturing his form to take the first points with a 16-6 win.

With both the fours - Anne Sirett, Christine Williams, Barrie James and Roger Wiggins, as well as Margaret Claridge, Andrew Brown, Neil Davis and Ray Claridge winning 7-6 and 16-6 respectively, Oxon were firmly in control.

On the second run, Wiltshire had no answer to their inspired visitors, and wins for Gloria Smith and David Wiggins 17-7, and Mike Keevil and Bob Cummings 15-10, nearly saw Oxon home.

With the triples of Marilyn Davis, Denis Wilson and Bob Barnard winning 15-7 and Julian Bradbury, Les Woodward and Kay Dickson 19-5, Oxfordshire took a commanding 14-2 (116-61) lead.

Cross claimed his second win 18-8 and, with Trevor Brown recovering from a first-match loss to win 23-4, Oxfordshire piled on the points.

Both fours claimed the second wins of the day - Sirett, Williams, James and Roger Wiggins won 11-5, with Margaret Claridge, Brown, Davis and Ray Claridge prevailing 9-4.

The last run of the mats went in similar fashion with wins from both triples - Bradbury, Woodward and Dickson 13-6, as well as Davis, Wilson and Barnard 10-8.

Keevil and Bob Cummings ran out 19-7 winners in their second pairs clash, with Wiltshire's only consolation coming when their last pair beat Smith and David Wiggins 14-11.

However, it could not stop Oxon from a crushing win 32-4 (230-117), and with their main rivals surprising losing, their lead has been stretched to 22 points.
