OXFORDSHIRE’S girls reached the semi-final of the English Schools' FA Under 14 PlayStation Inter County Trophy after fighting back to beat Cheshire in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
The teenagers won 3-1 on spot kicks following a 2-2 draw after extra time at Court Place Farm, where they came back from 2-0 down through Ellie Owen’s double.
They will host Greater Manchester or Lancashire in the last four on a date to be confirmed.
Entering the game off the back of a 7-1 triumph at Somerset and a 5-2 win at home to West Glamorgan, Oxfordshire were in confident mood.
They dominated the first half but were unable to make the most of their superiority and were punished.
Anna Fletcher gave the visitors the lead just before the break, but the home side’s prospects looked even bleaker after the restart.
Evie Sadler doubled the lead early in the second half, but Oxfordshire refused to be denied.
Owen scored twice to force a goalless extra time period, with the game eventually decided on penalties.
Cheshire missed three of their four spot kicks, while Owen, Ellie-Mae Richardson and Emily Harris all found the net for the hosts.
