Abingdon Utd 2 (Franklin 25, Holden 49)
Maidstone Utd 2 (Stroutts 69, Rowland 75)
ABINGDON United gave their Ryman League Premier Division opponents a scare, before being pegged back to a draw in this FA Trophy second qualifying round tie at Northcourt Road on Saturday.
It took ten minutes before Abingdon carved out the first chance as Ryan Curtin's free kick was well held by keeper Pat Mullins.
The home side went in front in the 25th minute.
Curtin sent a corner long, and the unmarked Tom Franklin sent in a downward header, which went inside the far post for his first goal for the club.
At the other end, Simon Tricker was called upon to deny Sam Tydeman, whose goalbound effort was turned away, then Nick Hegley's volley cracked against the bar.
After the break, Abingdon hit Maidstone with a counter attack to double their lead.
From a free kick inside their own penalty area, Luke Holden was sent clear.
With Mullins back-peddling, Holden produced a delightful lob that dipped under the bar.
This stung the visitors into action, and Jim Stroutts gave Maidstone the lifeline when he directed a header past Tricker.
The equaliser arrived with 15 minutes to go as Abingdon were undone by a high ball.
This time, it was Lynden Rowland's powerful header that flew into the net.
Abingdon twice went close to snatching a winner as Curtin forced a superb save from Mullins, then James Organ's header clipped the bar and flew over.
Abingdon Utd: Tricker, Meade, Organ, Woodley, Franklin, McCalmon, Alexis, Herbert, Holden, Odhiambo (Brooks 75), Curtin. Subs not used: Beechers, Carbon, Moss, Brooks.
