Oxfordshire 2nd bounced back from their defeat the previous week to beat West Glamorgan 9-6 in their Inter-County Championship Division 3 B match at Radley College.

Richard Beal and Jonathan Campbell took their singles, while Paul Casey and Campbell won their two doubles to put the men 4-2 up.

In spite of losing both singles, Oxon women managed three of the four doubles thanks to a dramatic 18-21, 23-21, 25-23 win by Kathryn Schutterlin and Nicky Torgersen.

Oxon went into the final three mixed, leading 7-5, and requiring one more for victory.

Second pairing Campbell and Torgersen obliged, with Campbell unbeaten with four wins, and Torgersen unbeaten with three.

Oxon collected a bonus point for winning nine matches.

On adjacent courts, Oxon 3rd suffered an 8-7 defeat against Northants 2nd in their opening Division 5C match.

Oxon women took both singles but gained just one doubles.

The men also split 3-3 after a singles win by Jon Ponsford and two doubles from Ponsford and Phil Sayer.

The mixed went down 2-1 to the visitors leaving Oxon rueing an 8-7 defeat, which should never have been.

  • Eighth seed Nathan D'Cruz, from Middlesex, won the men's singles in the Oxfordshire Open Championships at Radley. He triumphed 22-20 over Leicester's Carl Jennings.

The women's title went to Indonesia's Atu Rosalina Sagita, who recently moved to Essex. Sagita won 21-17, 21-18 against top seed and England No 4 Rebecca Pantaney, of Gloucestershire.

  • Jon Ponsford and John Boyd, won three times as Park A triumphed 7-2 against Evenlode B in Men's Division 2 of the Oxford and District League.

In Division 1, Abingdon A were crushed 6-3 by a rampant Windrush side whose first pairing of Neil Rowland and John Bishop were unbeaten.
