OXFORD Hawks’ men and women were edged out in their season openers.
While the latter lost out 1-0 at home to Clifton Robinsons 2nd in the Conference West, the men were defeated 2-1 at Brighton & Hove.
Wet and windy conditions made for a challenging contest in the newly-restructured Division 1 South.
The visitors led when Matt Wood set up Ted Bennett to fire in off his reverse stick.
But Brighton equalised before half-time and in an error-strewn second half the hosts grabbed a fortunate deflected winner which left keeper Chris Price stranded.
Sean Cox scored a double to help Oxford OBU get off to a flier in Premier Division 2 West.
Matt McKeown was also on target as they came from behind to record a 3-2 home win over Woking.
Oxford Ladies are the only team in South League Division 2 with a 100 per cent record.
They made it two wins out of two with a 2-1 win at Brighton & Hove.
Kim Warman laid on the opener for Milly Berndes-Cade, but it was cancelled out from a corner before the interval.
Oxford hit back after the break, though, Berndes-Cade’s fierce reverse-stick effort ultimately proving the difference between the sides.
