TONY McMahon has left Oxford United by mutual consent.
The 33-year-old has yet to feature for the U’s this season and is now a free agent.
McMahon signed for United last summer, but only made 13 appearances before joining Scunthorpe United on loan in January.
In May, U’s boss Karl Robinson said he felt a move back up north closer to home was best for the defender and the club.
But McMahon returned to the training ground mid-way through pre-season, indicating a desire to battle for his place.
However, the former Bradford City full-back has not played a minute for United in the 2019/20 campaign and an agreement has now been reached for his contract, which expires next year, to be terminated.
Robinson told the club: “Tony is a good pro but he knew that he was unlikely to feature here.
“He is now free to go and find a club and we thank him for his time here and wish him well for the future."
