RYAN Widmar said signing for Oxford City Stars was a no-brainer after becoming the club’s latest new recruit.
The NIHL Division 1 South side have secured the signature of their second import after Ruslan Cernych, bolstering the squad for the 2019/20 campaign.
Forward Widmar is an American-Luxembourg dual national and will embark on his first season in England.
The 29-year-old, who has previously played in America, Canada, Sweden, New Zealand and Belgium, cannot wait to get started at Oxpens.
He said: “I’m very excited to be joining Oxford City Stars and for the chance to play in the UK.
“With the club moving up a level and all the good things I have heard about the city, signing with Oxford was a no-brainer.”
Head coach Simon Anderson believes Widmar could turn out to be a key player.
He said: “Ryan is going to make us stronger in every department.
“He is a good face off guy, has speed to burn and plays a solid game.
“Ryan is very strong on the puck and I think the way he plays will suit the British game.
“The biggest thing for me was he was an easy guy to deal with and has a great attitude.
“He understands where we are as a club and is happy to be here to help us grow and improve.”
