GEORGE Tait’s maiden century was not enough to inspire Oxfordshire Under 17s to victory as they had to settle for a high-scoring draw with visitors Bedfordshire in the ECB Under 17 Championship.
Skipper Tait hammered a spectacular 152 at Radley College, including 23 fours, to help Oxfordshire to 413-6 declared in their 80 overs, Ben Cross chipping in with 53.
Bedfordshire, however, batted out their 80 overs, with Fayyaz Homyoon hitting 149 and fellow opener Rowan Bascetta-Pollitt 56 in their 328-6.
Tait completed an excellent personal performance by taking 4-100 in 24 overs.
Oxfordshire lost by 19 runs in their Women’s U17 County Championship clash against Northamptonshire.
The visitors ultimately paid the price for dropping Jodi Grewcock early on as they fell just short of their target in Corby.
The Northants batter finished unbeaten on 77 after a chance went begging in her first over as the hosts set 157-7.
Oxon’s Lottie Oxton was the pick of the bowling attack, ending with 4-23 from her eight overs.
In reply, the visitors lost early wickets and at 33-3 off ten overs were always up against it.
They needed 50 off the final eight overs with three wickets to go, but were all out for 138.
