EYNSHAM’S team are celebrating after winning the Oxfordshire Grand Prix title for the first time.

After 15 races across all distances, the club landed the crown at the final race – the Eynsham 10k ­– where they finished second behind Abingdon AC.

The race was won by Alex Wall-Clark for Southampton AC, but his second claim club is Abingdon.

However, Calum Steer finished second and it was the efforts of Owen Stepney (3rd), Harrison Read (4th), Les Newell (8th) and Paul Hughes (9th) who helped their club to the team accolade.

While this was good enough on the day, it was Eynsham who took the honours overall.

There was also success for Witney RR’s members.

Lindsey Smith was crowned the ladies champion.

While the club landed the men’s and women’s small team prizes.

Witney’s Tegs Jones was the first vet 40 in the race, crossing fifth overall, with Oxford City’s Julian Richardson the top vet 50.

Alchester AC’s John Nelson (vet 60) and Headington RR’s Phil Kimber (vet 70) also triumphed.

In the ladies race, Eynsham’s Katherine Bates took the vet 55 honour.

BEN West, from Bicester, starred at the latest round of the Cross Challenge series in Liverpool.

The Milton Keynes AC runner, was the leading Oxfordshire

athlete, crossing the line in 23rd amongst a strong field in the under 20 race.

BICESTER Tri’s George Jackson completed the Florence Marathon in Italy – his first over the distance – in 3hrs 19mins 15secs.

ABINGDON’S Cal MacLennan tackled the Hardwolds 80-mile Ultra race through the Yorkshire Wolds, completing in 22hrs 3mins 25secs.

IN California, Kidlington RC member Michael Collins took part in the Thanksgiving Day Los Angeles 5k Turkey Trot, finishing as the second vet 70.

ALCHESTER’S Andy Reading 10k takes place on December 9.
