ATHLETICS: All the action from the first round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League

The Abingdon AC runner completed the flat, yet challenging, course in 29mins 56secs.

Wall-Clarke beat Newbury’s Sam Hart, who was the top under 20, by 12 seconds, with clubmate Calum Steer a further 21 seconds back in third.

The ground was solid under foot despite the rain and James Eve, of Headington Roadrunners, was the top vet 40 in sixth overall.

Oxford’s Julian Richardson and Brian Green led the way in the vet 50 and 60 categories respectively.

Skip Snelson, of Banbury, claimed victory in the combined under 15/17 race, beating Radley’s Benjamin Cumberland, who was the first of the lower age category, by seven seconds.

Radley’s Quinn Miell-Ingram triumphed by 14 seconds in the under 13 competition, while Witney’s William Shayler won the under 11 event.

The hosts dominated the ladies’ race with three Newbury athletes inside the top four.

Sophie Crumly triumphed in 24.32, beating clubmate Jessica Franklin, who was the top vet 35, by 20 seconds.

Headington’s Diane Foster was a further 18 seconds back in third.

Kate Allred, of Eynsham Roadrunners, was the top vet 45 in 17th, with clubmate Katherine Bates taking the vet 55 honour.

In the under 15/17 race, Highworth’s Kiya Dee triumphed, with Oxford’s Daisy Palmer the top under 17 in third.

Josie Robertson, of Newbury, was victorious in the under 13 competition, with Oxford’s Isabella Haines-Gray first home in the under 11

event.

In the under 9 girls and boys’ race, Radley’s Cecilia Huepfl took victory.
