FORMER Oxford United youngster Greg Hackett has caught the eye of Vanarama National League side Barnet.

The forward has played a key role for Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division club Ardley United so far this season, scoring 15 goals.

And, after the north Oxfordshire outfit resisted interest in him from the level above, he is now on trial with the Bees.

Ardley chairman Ian Feaver said: “Greg’s been playing very well, we’ve had four seven-day approaches from different clubs in the South League.

“He has avoided all of those and he has gone on trial with Barnet.”

Manager Craig Adey added: “In my opinion he’s too good for the Hellenic League, but he’s also too good for the South League.

“That’s not belittling either league, rather more the quality we believe Greg has.

“This is an opportunity for him to go and express himself and find out if he has what it takes. I’m sure if he does that than he’ll have more than enough quality.”
