He beat off his 14 competitors with a catch of 13lb 6oz 0drms.
Malcolm Smith pushed him all the way with a mixed net of 12.6.0, while Pete Clarke was third with 9.1.0.
The draw proved important when Yarnton & District AC fished the second round of their Winter League on Club Lake at Orchid Lakes, Dorchester.
Pegs one and two in the bowl produced the top two weights.
Ernie Smith caught a net of bream on the pole with hard pellet for a winning weight of 41.8.0.
Second place went to Anthony Williams with 37.10.0, while Nick Collier was third with 29.10.0.
