ABINGDON ruled the roost at the Headington 5 to capture the men’s and ladies’ team prizes.

Paul Hughes pipped Paul Fernandez on the line as the pair finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Thomas Hayes and James Clayton were also in the top 20 as Abingdon’s men dominated.

They were not to be outdone by the club’s ladies, with Chloe Ridewood, Louise Astill and Lucy Shelton starring.

Witney’s Tegs Jones was the first vet 40 when finishing fifth overall.

Robert Storey, of Eynsham, was the top vet 50 in 26th.

Headington’s John Griffiths set a V60 course record of 32.13 when winning his age group.

Clubmate Phil Kimber was also on form, taking the vet 70 honour and finishing in 36.14 – a new mark over the distance for his category.

Eynsham’s Katherine Bates and Kate Williamson took the women’s vet 55 and 65 prizes respectively.

  • NOEL Blatchford won vet 70 gold in the 3,000m race walk as Abingdon enjoyed a successful British Masters Championships in Birmingham.

Duncan Talbot took silver in the vet 60 high jump, while Carole Muir set a personal best for second in the vet 40 pole vault.

Roz McKenzie (vet 50 3,000m walk) and Pete Stepney (vet 50 400m hurdles) won bronze.

Bicester and Oxford veteran David Kuester won two medals on his return to action, despite having a knee replacement operation just nine weeks ago.

He took silver in the vet 70 weight (heavy hammer) with an effort of 10.9m and bronze in the hammer with 27.14.
