Kieran Sullivan's reign as Banbury United boss started with an encouraging 0-0 draw against bogey side Team Bath on Saturday.
fAlthough this Premier Division draw extended the students unbeaten run against Banbury to eight games, it was the first time that they had failed to score, and United's defence and midfield play fully deserved the clean sheet.
United's superior fitness held them in good stead and in the 17th minute they were denied a goal when Stuart Bridges's goalbound shot was deflected for a corner, with Darren Chitty well beaten in the Bath goal.
Such was Banbury's dominance it was the 31st minute before the visitors managed a shot at goal, and that went well wide.
Three minutes later, Banbury went close again when Lewis Travers turned a defender in the box, and from a narrow angle his shot curled just inches wide of the far post, again with Chitty beaten.
Team Bath came out strongly for the second half, but United weathered the storm, and then hit back.
From a Murray Nicholls corner in the 74th minute, Mark Essex was amazed to see his close range effort brilliantly saved by Chitty, resulting in yet another corner.
