A LATE goal from substitute Mark Flanagan saw Abingdon Town reach the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory against Ardley United at Culham Road.

Town applied early pressure and Carl Bloomfield had a shot saved in the seventh minute. But Ardley looked menacing on the counter attack and they went close in the 12th minute when Phil Martin fired in a shot that forced Gareth Walker to tip it over the bar. From the corner, Tommy Hayday cleared off the line.

Neither side could capitalise before the break, but Town were finally rewarded in the 58th minute when Bloomfield volleyed in.

Ardley equalised five minutes later when Adam Hamp glanced a header home, but the home side scored the winner in the 80th minute when Flanagan shot right-footed through a crowd of players and in off the post.

Abingdon now face a home tie against FA Vase runners-up AFC Totton in two weeks' time.

North Leigh's FA Cup campaign began with a convincing 4-0 victory as some slick passing and clinical finishing proved too much for visiting Western League side Devizes Town.

They were one up after five minutes when Andy McCabe set up James Mortimer-Jones to drill the ball hard and low under the advancing keeper Steve Hale to find the bottom corner of the net.

McCabe headed in after the break and then new signing Phil Corcoran scored his first goal for the club to make it safe.

There was still time for Mortimer-Jones to volley in his second and North Leigh now entertain Wessex League side VT FC at Eynsham Park on September 1.

Shrivenham keeper Jamie Morse made some spectacular saves to earn his side a replay against Kidlington on Wednesday.

In the early exchanges Nathan Jack had a shot well saved by Morse. Kidlington applied the pressure and Mark Baker put them ahead on the half hour mark with a deft flick header, which found its way into the net via the far post.

Shrivenham's best chance of the half fell to Steve Avenell in the 40th minute but he headed wide. Just before the interval, a great shot from Danny Warne was saved by Morse, diving full length to his right to palm his shot onto a post and out for a corner.

Both Jack and Baker forced more heroics from Morse after the restart but Shrivenham scored the equaliser when Martin Stratford collected the ball 25 yards out from goal. The impressive young midfielder coolly picked his spot and let fly a terrific shot that gave the keeper no chance.

There was bad news for Shrivenham though, with prolific striker Alex Green taken to hospital after suffering a knee injury, and he is now a big doubt for the replay.

Carterton were under the cosh for most of the first half of this Cup tie, but the back three of Gerry Packham, Jamie Butt and Danny Warner stood firm and managed to deal with everything that came their way in a 1-1 draw against Fareham Town.

Playing into a stiff breeze, Carterton found it difficult to break out of their half and when they did they couldn't maintain possession.

Fareham deservedly took the lead on 37 minutes when, from a right wing cross, Carterton failed to clear the ball and after a couple of attempts, Paul managed to force the ball over the line.

After the break Carterton came out much more determined and dominated for long periods with Dave Bostock, Andy Holder and Craig Holman probing away at every opportunity.

It was only a matter of time before the equaliser came. After Bostock was fouled on the edge of the box, Jamie Stalker's deflected free-kick found the bottom corner.

The replay will be at Kilkenny Lane tomorrow night.

Witney United's Cup campaign came to an abrupt and disappointing end in the New Forest as they fell to an extra preliminary round defeat to Wessex League outfit Brockenhurst.

The home side enjoyed most of the possession and, although they did not create any clear-cut chances, they applied the early pressure.

On the half hour mark, United threatened with Chris Harper the creator with a great ball inside the full back for Lee Keyes to run on to, but home keeper Rob Vine was quickly off his line to block the shot.

John McMahon hit the loose ball goalwards from inside the centre circle but the impressive Simon Young got back to clear.

Almost immediately, Brockenhurst produced a good tip over from keeper Chris Hunter when Jimmy Anderson hit a great shot from 45 yards.

Within a couple of minutes, Hunter was called into action again when he pushed Darren Crook's looping cross onto the crossbar and over for a corner which was cleared behind.

However, Cario Tate rose unchallenged from the corner to place a neat header into the top corner of the net.

Witney almost hit back within minutes as Gary Wickens got on the end of a Harper cross, but Vine saved well in the home goal.

Witney pushed on after the break and had plenty of chances, but were rocked by the home side's second goal in the 74th minute that came with a deft lob from Crook.

Bicester Town wil have to do it all again after a late equaliser from Milton United denied them a win.

After a tame first half, Danny Leggett had the chance to break the deadlock on 60 minutes, but sidefooted straight at the keeper. He made amends soon after with a great goal.

On 80 minutes the tie looked even safer when Milton's Vinnie Rusher was sent off, but there was time for one more twist. Five minutes from time a speculative lob from Robbie Sadler deceived Tom McNamara in the Bicester goal and Milton were level. The replay is tonight.
