Oxfordshire Under 17s suffered relegation to Division 3 of the ECB County Championship, despite an 84-run victory against promotion-chasing Buckinghamshire at the Oxford University Ground in Marston.

In a match badly affected by rain, Oxon posted a total of 291, thanks to Craig Wood's unbeaten 67 batting at No 9.

But the total did not look to be a challenging one, as Bucks raced to 75-1.

However, the introduction of spinner Joe White proved the turning point as his spell of 22 overs yielded 4-54 as Bucks fell to 207 all out.

Oxon won the toss and opted to bat on day one, and Jack Taylor again batted superbly, only to fall agonisingly one run short of another county century.

Josh Smith kept the momentum going, but it was Wood, in his first season of county cricket, who provided the late impetus.

Given the conditions, 291 seemed a competitive total, but Bucks, who were top of the division, needing victory to ensure promotion, set off in pursuit of the target with some purpose.

At 131-2, they seemed well in control, until White was brought into the attack.

Seamer Ed Smith chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Taylor kept things tight in a spell of 12 overs as the visitors were eventually all out in the 65th over.
