Oxford Stadium general manager Steve Rawle has quit his post, citing "family reasons" for his shock resignation on Tuesday.

Only recently, Rawle announced swingeing cuts across the board to try and attract more racegoers as attendances and tote returns have dipped over the last year.

GRA general manager, Clive Feltham, said: "He resigned for family reasons and leaves immediately and won't be working his notice with us.

"We will be looking for a replacement as soon as possible and advertising the post in the next few days.

"In the meantime, we have a combination of experienced people here who can carry on.

"We have Sharon Hardy back, as well as former general manager Mick Hardy, who lives close by to keep an eye on things.

"Certainly, the crowds are down and we would like to see more people coming through the turnstiles.

"With Sharon back at the helm we will be looking to improve marketing. After all, it's a good facility and still looks good.

"The service levels are good, the racing is good. We just need to get out there and bring the crowds back."
