Yarnton mum Melissa Leek is fast catching up her sons, Peter and David, after taking up karate with the Oxford School of Martial Arts.

Melissa only took up the sport a year ago, but she passed her green belt test at the club's latest round of examinations at Exeter Hall, Kidlington, last weekend.

Now she is only one grade behind her Peter, 14, and David, 13, who have been training for two years.

She said: "It's great to find a sport where we can train as a family.

"The boys have been really supportive and encouraging. The race is now on for black belt, but I doubt they'll let me overtake them!"

The club's latest examinations featured more than 300 people - the largest in its 12-year history.
