Oxford City player-manager Justin Merritt says everything has been put in place - on and off the field - to make this season's Division 1 South & West a successful one.

One of their biggest signings is Jermaine McSporran who has returned to the club following spells at Wycombe, Doncaster Rovers, Chester, Kidlington, Banbury United and Abingdon United.

He joins a host of new faces as they look to be among the promotion front-runners when their campaign kicks off at home to Bracknell Town tomorrow.

"Last season was all about cementing our place in the league," said Merritt, who is assisted by former Oxford United defender Mike Ford.

"My aim is to get into the top five. I really want to push for promotion.

"Everything is right on and off the pitch.

"A lot of things go in cycles and hopefully we will be on an upward spiral.

"It's good that we were kept in this league - we've got the derby games against Didcot and Abingdon, which are always good to look forward to."

City have doubts over Merritt (ribs) and George Redknap (groin).
