Kidlington's plans to host the Lashings World XI may have failed, but chairman Nick Duval is still considering another big event.

Lashings were due to play Kidlington at Stratfield Brake tomorrow, but Duval said the match was cancelled "due to a lack of corporate sales".

On announcing the fixture earlier this summer, he had pledged: "Sponsors can expect top media coverage, this will be the biggest cricket event to take place in Oxfordshire since the turn of the century.

"The match should gain full TV coverage as well as Oxford Mail and local radio."

But fans will have to wait a little longer for players such as Chris Cairns, Richie Richardson and Rashid Latif appear at Kidlington.

Duval added: "We had sold insufficient tickets at the time we spoke to Lashings.

"We agreed with them that it was the right thing to do to cancel. We will hopefully do something similar next year."

Things have not been going too well on the field either recently with Kidlington's promotion-chasing first team, having lost two of their last three matches.
