Stuart Hole's rapid progression from village to county cricketer continued when he made his first team debut for Warwickshire.

And the 22-year-old Oxford paceman made an instant impact, taking a wicket with only his second ball during Warwickshire's Pro40 Division 1 victory over Essex.

Hole had Essex captain Mark Pettini caught by Adam Shantry for the first wicket of the innings.

He finished with figures of 3-0-16-1, which gave him Warwickshire's second best economy rate, and he is hopeful of more opportunities.

Hole said: "It was exciting to make my debut and good fun. I enjoyed every minute of it.

"I bowled a wide first ball and then got Pettini out with my second.

"It wasn't the best of balls, but it was a great feeling."

Hole has progressed from OCA league side Freeland in 2004 to Warwickshire 2nd in 2006 and his next target is a first class debut.

He only learned he was playing against Essex on the morning of the match.

Hole said: "I was down in Sussex for the championship game at Hove. I was in the 13, but didn't make the final XI, which was a bit unfortunate.

"One of the bowlers got injured in that match and I got told on Sunday morning that I was going to play."

When not on Warwickshire duty, Hole has played a big role in Oxford's rise to second spot in the Sommers Home Counties Premier League Division 1 table.

He is now looking to get a further deal at Edgbaston.

"I think there may be a few more opportunities," said Hole.

"I'll just have to keep going and see how it goes.

"The feedback has been good.

"I'm going to have a chat in a couple of weeks' time and see what happens.

"Hopefully, I will get something sorted."
