Veteran off-spinner Rupert Evans rolled back the years to take 6-46 and set title-chasing Oxford on the way to a six-wicket win at lowly Farnham Royal in Division 1 of the Sommers Home Counties Premier League.

Evans worked his magic to bowl Farnham Royal out for 217 after they had won the toss and elected to bat.

The Bucks club made a solid start until Philip Evans - back in the side for Stuart Hole, who was on Warwickshire duty - made the breakthrough with the score on 60.

Philip Evans was invol- ved again in the second wicket, this time producing a fine piece of fielding to run out Ollie Clayson.

Rupert Evans then took centre stage from his son to work his way through the Farnham Royal order, including the wicket of opener Alex Ranger, who top-scored with 59.

In reply, Oxford openers Graham Charlesworth and Jason Harrison provided the perfect platform to chase down Farnham's total.

Charlesworth hammered 89 off 80 balls before being caught at slip by Krishmar Santokie off Javed Khan with the total on 125.

Stewart Laudat joined Harrison to keep Oxford on track before the captain fell for a determined 44 at 193.

Joe Porter went on the same score and after Laudat fell for 59 off 72 balls, it was left to Shamilal Mendis and Ian Crosby to see Oxford over the finishing line.

The win keeps Oxford a point behind Slough in the race for the title.
