OXFORD City will be desperate to ensure it’s not acase of “after the Lord Mayor’s Show” when they travel to Chelmsford City tomorrow in desperate need of Vanarama National League South points.

City’s FA Cup heroics at Colchester defied all logic, but boss Mark Jones has repeated his priorities to start collecting crucial points in a bid to move away from the relegation zone.

And they will have their work cut out as they make the trip back to Essex to take on the high-flying Clarets, who were knocked out of the FA Cup by Gateshead.

Jones said his whirlwind week has been the best experience of his footballing career, and he has high hopes that City’s league form will now start to turn.

He said: “The main thing we need to do is carry that confidence through from last Saturday to our league fixtures.

“If we perform as we did at Colchester, we should fear nobody in this league.

“Chelmsford are one of the favourites for this league, but we need to keep the feelgood factor going.

“If I was still a player, I would not be able to wait to get back out there again. We need to harness this good feeling and show what we can do.”

Defender Miles Welch-Hayes has been recalled by parent club Bath City, but Jones has moved quickly to replace him as Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain returns on a two-month loan deal from Portsmouth.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, brother of England international Alex, is a like-for-like replacement, and will not be cup-tied as Pompey have been knocked out of the FA Cup.

Jones said: “I’m delighted to get Christian back into the fold. He’s got a lot of talent and the real bonus is he will be able to play in our FA Cup match too.

“I know (Portsmouth manager) Kenny Jackett rates him, so we are very fortunate to have him back.

“The motivation levels were very high last week, and we have to analyse why we did so well. Our motivation is now to do that again and move up the table.

“It was a heroic display last week. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely I did. It was my best day in football.”

City have almost a clean bill of health, with only Reece Fleet ruled out.

Christian Navarro is likely to return from a hamstring pull.
